Unveiling the Queerness of the Louvre
This tour of the Louvre in small groups will not only take you to the most important masterpieces of the most visited museum in the world, but also through the history of same-sex relationships from Antiquity to the Renaissance.
from €290 to €139/person (entrance tickets included, degressive pricing depending on the size of your party)
How many times around the world a teacher has given an Art History class about the Mona Lisa without even mentioning the fact that Leonardo da Vinci was gay and that this painting was possibly a portrait of his lover? How many times one has praised Michelangelo’s sculptures without imagining his hidden admiration of the male body that pushed him to such perfection in art?
This tour offers a more inclusive interpretation of the most famous works of art and brings to light queer details hidden in some of them. While going towards the Sphinx of Tanis, the Venus of Milo, the Victory of Samothrace or the Mona Lisa, we will also stop in front of a selection of works that allow us to understand how queer relationships were seen, from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome all the way to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
• Learn everything about the masterpieces in the Louvre Museum
• Discover the queer side of your favorite ancient heroes, gods and goddesses
• Understand the historical evolution of societies regarding gender and same sex relationships
• Explore parts of the museum that one never sees on a mainstream tour
